Course Description

The Building and Plumbing course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the essential principles, techniques and practices in the construction and plumbing industries. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on training to equip students with the necessary skills to embark on a career in building construction and plumbing.

KNEC Programs

  1. Artisan in Building:

Duration: 1year

Minimum Grade: D minus

The Artisan level in Building focuses on providing foundational knowledge and practical skills in various aspects of building construction. Students learn basic carpentry, masonry, and general construction techniques. This level prepares individuals for entry-level positions in the building industry.

  1. Craft in Building:

Duration: 2 years

Minimum Grade: D plain

The Craft level in Building builds upon the skills acquired at the Artisan level. Students gain a deeper understanding of building construction principles and techniques. They learn more advanced carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing skills. This level prepares individuals for supervisory roles or specialized positions in the building industry.

  1. Diploma in Building:

Duration: 3 years

Minimum Grade: C minus

The Diploma in Building is a comprehensive program that covers all major aspects of building construction. Students learn advanced construction techniques, project management, architectural drawing, building codes and regulations, and construction materials. This level prepares individuals for managerial positions, project supervision, and entrepreneurship in the building industry.

  1. Artisan in Plumbing:

Duration: 1year

Minimum Grade: D minus

The Artisan level in Plumbing focuses on developing foundational knowledge and practical skills in plumbing systems. Students learn about different types of pipes, fittings, plumbing fixtures, and installation techniques. This level prepares individuals for entry-level positions in the plumbing traded

  1. Craft in Plumbing:

Duration: 1year

Minimum Grade: D plain

The Craft level in Plumbing builds upon the skills acquired at the Artisan level. Students gain a deeper understanding of plumbing systems, maintenance, repair, and installation. They learn advanced techniques for water supply, drainage systems, and gas fitting. This level prepares individuals for supervisory roles or specialized positions in the plumbing trade.

NITA Programs

  1. Grade Three in Masonry, Welding, and Plumbing:

Duration: 12months

Minimum Grade: KCSE or KCPE certificate

Grade Three programs in masonry, welding, and plumbing build upon the foundational knowledge acquired in the short courses. These programs offer a more comprehensive curriculum, focusing on advanced techniques, practical skills, and industry standards. Successful completion of Grade Three signifies a competent level of proficiency in the chosen trade.

  1. Grade Two in Masonry, Welding, and Plumbing:

 Duration: 9months

 Minimum Grade: KCSE or KCPE certificate

Grade Two programs aim to enhance the knowledge and skills acquired at Grade Three. These programs delve deeper into the technical aspects of masonry, welding, and plumbing, covering advanced topics such as specialized welding techniques, complex plumbing systems, and intricate masonry structures.
