School of Cosmetology

Course Description

The cosmetology course is designed to train the students and offer practical skill, theoretical knowledge and professional attitude necessary to be employed or self-employed in the cosmetics industry.

After the graduate has been trained and passed successfully in their exams they will be qualified to:

  • Work as a cosmetologist in the beauty parlor, beauty salon and in a cosmetic shop
  • Work as a tutor
  • Set up own cosmetology business
  • Work as a sales person, hairdresser, beautician, barber, consultant, demonstrator etc.

Course Structure

The course is divided into two categories depending on duration of study and examination body.

The structures are:

  • Professional courses
  • Short courses

Professional Courses

Professional courses are those examined by NITA and take a longer time of study. The professional courses are listed below:

  • Cosmetology GRADE 3 (COSG3)-Duration 12 months
  • Cosmetology GRADE 2 (COSG2)-Duration 6 months
  • Cosmetology GRADE 1 (COSG1)-Duration 6 months
  • Beauty Therapy GRADE 3 (GBT3)- Duration 12 months
  • Beauty Therapy GRADE 2(GBT2)- Duration 6 months
  • Beauty Therapy GRADE 1 (GBT1)- Duration 6 months
  • Hairdressing Grade 3 (GHD3) Duration 12 months
  • Hairdressing Grade 2 (GHD2)- Duration 6 months
  • Hairdressing Grade 1 (GHD1)- Duration 6 months

Short Courses

The short courses in cosmetology are those that are trained internally and examined by Uwezo College. These courses are intended to those professionals already in the cosmetics industry who would want to further their skills and knowledge in the field and want to be certified. The courses take between 3-6months.

The short course in the trained include the following:

Beauty Therapy

  • Nail technology
  • Basic makeup
  • Working effectively with others
  • Basic skin care
  • Career information

Hairdressing

  • Career information
  • Plaiting and Braiding
  • Haircutting
  • Blow-drying
  • Shampooing
